MONTES TORRES IVONNE KATHERINE

Física de la Universidad del Callao (Perú) y Dra en Oceanografía de la Universidad de Concepción (Chile). Su tesis doctoral involucró la aplicación de un sistema de modelado oceánico regional y aproximaciones lagrangianas para llenar el vacío en las observaciones in-situ de los sistemas de corrientes en el océano Pacífico tropical sudeste. Durante el posdoctorado en el marco del programa insignia Desoxigenación de los océanos del Consorcio EUR-Oceans, financiado por EUR-OCEANS que se llevó a cabo en Francia, Alemania y Perú, se llevaron a cabo estudios pioneros sobre modelado regional físico-biogeoquímico acoplado aplicado a los Sistema de Afloramiento de Bordes Orientales (EBUS) para investigar los procesos de mantenimiento de la Zona Mínima de Oxígeno frente a Perú y México. Desde el 2014, forma parte del Instituto Geofísico del Perú (IGP) como investigadora científica, donde como primer proyecto, lideró la implementación del Sistema de Computación de Alto Rendimiento, herramienta fundamental para el desarrollo de las investigaciones del IGP, que también sirvió como herramienta para toda la comunidad científica nacional. Actualmente, se dedica a investigar el rol del océano sobre el clima, el impacto de las interacciones aire-mar locales y remotas sobre los sistemas de afloramiento, los procesos asociados al cambio climático y la desoxigenación marina; lo cual ha sido plasmado en varias publicaciones científicas como autora y coautora. En calidad de investigadora principal en Perú, se encuentra a cargo del proyecto SEPICAF, que despliega flotadores tipo ARGO frente a la costa occidental de Sudamérica para proporcionar información oceánica periódica para las actividades de monitoreo e investigación. Áreas de interés: Oceanografía, Sistemas de Afloramiento de Bordes Orientales, Interacciones océano-atmósfera, Modelado regional físico-biogeoquímico y océano-atmós, Desoxigenación marina, Procesos asociados al cambio climático.

Proyectos de investigación Eastern boundary upwelling systems (EBUS): diversity, coupled dynamics and sensitivity to climate change EBUS are natural laboratories for studying the breadth of interactive processes between land, ocean and atmosphere at the regional scale. Proyectos de investigación Modelación numérica de la circulación del Pacífico Tropical Este y su conexión subsuperficial con el Sistema de Corrientes de Humboldt El objetivo principal de la tesis fue determinar los patrones de circulación en el Pacífico Tropical Este y responder puntualmente a las siguientes preguntas: ‘¿Cuáles son las conexiones subsuperficiales entre el Sistema de Corrientes Ecuatoriales y el Sistema de Corrientes de Perú, específicamente la PCUC, bajo condiciones promedios?’ y ‘¿Cómo dichas conexiones pueden verse alteradas durante la fase fría y cálida del evento ENSO?’, haciendo uso de un modelo numérico regional de alta resolución UNIVERSIDAD DE CONCEPCION. Proyectos de investigación ‘Circulación del Pacífico Este a partir de Flotadores ARGO (SEPICAF) SEPICAF es un esfuerzo regional dirigido a proporcionar información oceánica periódica para el monitoreo y para abordar problemas científicos claves que permita la implementación de sistemas de pronósticos regionales. Ello a través del despliegue de un total de 17 flotadores frente a las costas de Perú y Chile, 9 y 8, respectivamente.
