ORJEDA FERNANDEZ MARIA GISELLA

Obtuve mi doctorado en Genética de University of Birmingham en el Reino Unido en 1995. Unos meses después me mudé a Francia donde lideré un programa mundial de mejoramiento con 37 sitios experimentales en diversos continentes. Luego, trabajé en GENOSCOPE construyendo el mapa físico y secuenciando el genoma del arroz. Terminado el proyecto, me integré a la Unité de Recherche en Génomique Végétale del INRA para identificar mediante clonamiento posicional, genes de resistencia a virus en Cucumis. Ingresé a la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) contratada con la misión de establecer y dirigir la primera unidad de investigación de genómica en el Perú. Hasta marzo del 2022 fui profesora ordinaria principal de la Facultad de Ciencias de la UPCH en la que también fui coordinadora de la Sección de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular y jefa de la Unidad de Genómica. He sido la investigadora principal de muchos proyectos de investigación en genómica. El más conocido es el proyecto de secuenciación del genoma de la papa, también fui el punto focal del grupo de Secuenciación del Genoma de la Papa en América Latina y miembro del consejo directivo del Consorcio de Secuenciación del Genoma de la Papa a nivel mundial. Todos los estudiantes de los cuales fui mentora, han alcanzado grados avanzados y han participado en publicaciones de alto impacto. Soy miembro de número y vicepresidente de la Academia Nacional de Ciencias. Fui presidente del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica (CONCYTEC) desde 2012 hasta el 2017. En diciembre de 2016, recibí la Medalla Nacional ENCINAS, que es una medalla otorgada por la Derrama Magisterial. He presidido el Instituto Nacional de Investigación en Glaciares y Ecosistemas de Montaña desde agosto 2018 hasta enero 2020. Desde abril 2019, soy profesora ordinaria principal a tiempo completo en la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos. La web de mi laboratorio: https://www.biogenomicafcb.unmsm.edu.pe

Proyectos de investigación APLICACIONES OMICAS EN SISTEMAS BIOLOGICOS PARA USOS ESPECiFICOS EN BIODIVERSIDAD, SALUD Y AMBIENTE Este proyecto (https://bit.ly/3WBrpcy) con varios investigadores, ha usado eDNA acuático y metabarcoding para analizar la composición de la microbiota del Rímac y de lagunas contaminadas en Pasco. Asimismo ha secuenciado la microbiota de suelo de ambientes áridos como los bosques secos (eDNA terrestre) para develar las PGPR en vista de posibles soluciones al declive del bosque. Proyectos de investigación SECUENCIAMIENTO DEL GENOMA DEL ALGARROBO (PROSOPIS PALLIDA) E IDENTIFICACION DE GENES DE RESISTENCIA A FACTORES BIOTICOS USANDO HERRAMIENTAS BIOINFORMATICAS Este proyecto propone sentar las bases del conocimiento genomico del algarrobo secuenciando su genoma y estableciendo un pipeline de analisis bioinformatico de genomas totales y de genes de resistencia a factores bioticos siendo este el inicio de investigaciones futuras usando los conocimientos producidos. Proyectos de investigación Caracterización del viroma patogénico del algarrobo (Neltuma pallida) en el santuario histórico bosque de Pómac para entender el declive de los bosques secos En este trabajo, apuntamos a caracterizar el viroma del algarrobo e identificar virus relacionados a su enfermedad. Para ello, realizaremos una secuenciación de ARN total de árboles silvestres sanos y enfermos. Proyectos de investigación Metabarcoding usando ADN ambiental aéreo para develar la biodiversidad en el Área de Conservación Regional Cordillera Escalera - Una herramienta para países megadiversos Este proyecto comparará la eficacia del eDNA y metabarcoding en conjunto con la de métodos tradicionales y el eDNA acuático, para evaluar la diversidad. De ese modo, se plantea convertir el uso del eDNA aéreo con metabarcoding en una actividad simple para el monitoreo del estado de la biodiversidad local y global. Proyectos de investigación Contenido de ADN nuclear de diversas especies de Orquídeas de Cordillera Escalera - San Martin Estudiaremos el contenido de ADN nuclear (valor C) mediante citometría de flujo como paso preliminar hacia la secuenciación del genoma completo, arrojando luz sobre las complejidades genómicas de las Orchidaceae. Esta investigación se alinea con el mandato para la conservación de la biodiversidad y contribuye al Plan Nacional de Conservación de Orquídeas Amenazadas (2020-2029), con el objetivo de aumentar la investigación de orquídeas en más de un 25%.
